Holker Hall & Gardens – a unique owner benefit

Our owners love being a part of the Holker Estate family and enjoy complimentary privilege passes for Holker Hall and Gardens, in South Lakeland. Holker Hall and Gardens stands as a testament to England’s rich heritage and natural beauty and has been home to the Cavendish family for more than 200 years. As a result the Hall and Gardens seamlessly blend historical grandeur with the warmth of a cherished family abode.

Architectural Splendour

Holker Hall’s architectural evolution is a captivating journey through time. The house showcases a harmonious blend of styles, with the east-facing entrance front featuring an asymmetrically placed porch flanked by turrets adorned with domes and pinnacles. Behind the porch rises a tower crowned with a copper-covered ogee-shaped cupola, while an adjacent broad, square tower boasts a lead-covered pyramidal roof. Inside, visitors can marvel at rooms adorned with elaborately decorated plaster ceilings, a library housing approximately 3,500 books—including some that survived the 1871 fire—and a cantilevered oak staircase with over 100 uniquely carved balusters. These elements collectively narrate tales of historical significance and aesthetic brilliance.

Enchanting Gardens

Spanning 25 acres, the award-winning gardens at Holker Hall are a horticultural delight. Designed by the renowned landscape architect Thomas Mawson in the early 20th century, the formal gardens feature a terrace wall to the southeast of the hall. Subsequent enhancements include a cascade, labyrinth, and a sundial, adding layers of intrigue and beauty. Notably, the Holker Lime, a majestic tree planted in the early 17th century, stands as one of Britain’s largest and finest common limes, symbolising the estate’s enduring connection to nature.
