"I came to Longlands after a friend recommended the site to me. I love the friendliness of everyone at Longlands including the very helpful staff. I’m constantly telling people about what they are missing out on in this part of South Cumbria, with its fantastic views and very friendly locals."

What a success! Family Fun Day goes down a treat

FROM a full line up of beautifully decorated pumpkins to a hotly contested photography competition - this year's annual Family Fun Day proved to be another out and out success.

The popular autumn event at Old Park Wood brought our community of holiday home owners together to celebrate the end of a fantastic summer season.

It also helped to raise £922 for two local charities - St Mary's Hospice in Ulverston and Butterfly Hugs, which provides support for children affected by life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Alex Hodgson, Interim Parks General Manager at Holker Estates, said everyone involved was over the moon with the amount generated.

"The Family Fun Day is always very popular and a lovely way for our owners to mark the end of a wonderful season in this lovely setting.

"But we were also delighted to have helped raise such a lot of money for St Mary's Hospice and Butterfly Hugs. It will be wonderful to hand this money over to charities which provide essential support to people across this area.

"Our thanks go to everyone who took part on the day. It's something I know the whole team looks forward to every year.

"A lot of planning goes into it by team members. A special mention should go to Lynn at Longlands for all her efforts."

Entries had poured in for the 'decorate a pumpkin' competition which created a seasonal display of traditional ghosts and ghouls alongside some more contemporary mystical unicorns.

The cake stall was filled with a range of delicious culinary creations while those attending were able to enjoy tasty jacket potatoes and chilli, as well as drinks from Unsworth's Brewery in the marquee.

And a photography contest drew the attention of many residents who had entered images taken throughout the year.

Alex added: "The atmosphere on the day was great and we've had some wonderful comments and feedback from owners since it took place.

"Well done to everyone who helped make the day such a success."
