"I knew as soon as I saw the view across the Duddon Estuary and mountains beyond that I had found somewhere very special. My first caravan had gas lamps, so a conversion to electric was needed and now 38 years on I’m still here. "

The halls are decked at magnificent Holker

THE run up to Christmas is a busy time of year.

But it's also the perfect opportunity to do something special with family and friends - to stop and savour the festivities and celebrate the season.

Magnificent Holker Hall, a short drive away from Longlands, is decked and ready for December 25 with a chance for visitors to enjoy the sparkling, friendly atmosphere as well as its programme of events.

With a show-stopping homegrown tree as its centre piece, Holker, near Grange-over-Sands, is also dressed in a new Winter Wonderland theme this year with a brand new set of white, silver and glass decorations adorning its grand hall.

Heather Creasey, Holker Hall manager, said the Grade II-listed property was a spectacular sight at this time of year.

"We start planning for Christmas before the summer season to make sure everyone who visits has an unforgettable time.

"The hall is open for only a select number of days in December so we hope people will seize the opportunity to enjoy time in one of the most historic homes in the region."

Holker Hall will be open between Thursday, December 12 and Sunday, December 15 with visitors able to see the hall decked for Christmas while enjoying delicious, homemade food in The Courtyard Cafe and Ilex Brasserie.

A range of craft activities for children are set to go ahead on Sunday, December 15, along with the chance to meet Santa's reindeer, with tickets available to purchase online via www.holker.co.uk

Alex Hodgson, of Holker Estates, said: "This is a lovely time of year to spend time at Longlands

"We know some of our holiday home owners enjoy quiet time away in these beautiful surroundings and the breath-taking backdrop the site offers.

"Others like to get out into the local area and we think Holker Hall is well worth a visit to soak up the festive atmosphere and see this stately home dressed for Christmas."
